Marble Marble Marble!

I just returned from an incredible trip to Rome and Florence. We escaped with our two sons for the Thanksgiving holiday. As we wandered through the most architecturally famous churches and chapels in the world, everyone craned their necks to look at the breathtaking frescoed ceilings and walls. I couldn’t help but look down at the exquisite floors. The marble work was unlike anything in the United States, old or new. Inlay and patterns were so beautifully installed a thousand years ago that they look like popular patterns today.

If you ever find yourself in Rome, be sure to visit the Palazzo Colonna and the Palazzo Doria Pamphili. They are both stunning examples of 16th and 17th century Roman architecture. I was blown away by the marble door frames in both of these.

In Florence, the Medici Chapel floor wins the prize for most elaborate. However, the patterns were so phenomenal in every church we visited that I can’t wait use as inspiration for projects I am working on today!
