Hello and welcome to the BIG REVEAL!!

Henry's room has been transformed from a little boy room to a teen room over the past 6 weeks. As a guest participant in the One Room Challenge, my task was to completely reimagine the space and install it within the six week timeframe.  Mision accomplished except for one major issue, the bed never arrived from Serena and Lilly.  The transformation includes a new wall color, wallpaper on the ceiling, new blinds and valances, new night tables, lamps, a new bed (which did not arrive), new bedding, a new desk, dresser, and new accessories.

My goals for this room were twofold. Firstly, I wanted to create a relaxing oasis for Henry to come home to after a long day of school, sports and activites in high school.  However it was also important to get him organized updated for this new phase of his life. Therefore I chose a desk with great storage including files and draweres.  Also, a comfortable but thematic desk chair and desk lamp.  I rarely shop at The Pottery Barn but the price was right for this desk (see below for a list of where everything is from) and the Pottery Barn Teen shop had fun bulletin boards and magnetic boards to help organize his workspace.

As I mentioned, the bed did not arrive. It is the Balboa bed from Serena and Lilly and was the inspiration for the entire room.  Henry has an old school Papasan chair that he loves and wanted to keep and the bed will look great with it.  The matchstick blinds also work with the rattan and woven look and tied into the scheme really nicely.

I chose frosted green column lamps with hopsack shades from Bungalow 5 to sit on the Pottery Barn bedside tables.   The dresser which ties the wood finishes adds a modern element to the scheme.

The most fun was choosing the art.  Jordan Weber an extremly talented up and coming artist sold me two studies for his mural in downtown Des Moines.  Henry and I chose three skate decks from Skate America for another wall.  Originally I had visions of Basquiat or Damien Hurst decks but these look terrific and are a much different price point.

The large painting to the right of the bed was painted by Henry and several other JDRF junior ambasadors who suffer from Type 1 Diabetes.  It was auctioned off at the JDRF Hope Gala a few weeks ago and purchased by my hubs!  The Warhol inspired poster was also from the JDRF Hope Gala. It is photos of Henry imitating the Pop Art silk screens that Warhol did of John Lennon.
